Bali
Tulamben Bay, in the North East of Bali, is our first dive destination. The standout feature here for divers is the USAT Liberty wreck, there are not many places in the world where you have a wreck, smothered in fish and corals, which lies in a depth of 3-29m, as a shore dive.
The site is very popular, and rightly so, but Bali is also famed for it's macro life, sites such as Secret Bay and Seraya secrets are well known to underwater photographers.
2 weeks of virtually unlimited diving in perfect conditions here were the ideal way to warm up for some of the other places we will be visiting, such as Sipadan, with it's vertical drop-offs and 'interesting' currents.
I did some snorkeling, as well as diving and have managed to get a few nice shots, both wide-angle and macro, using both strobes and Magic Filters. A lot of the good stuff is very shallow in Bali, and by duck diving down just a couple of metres I have even managed shots of Harlequin Shrimps and Ghost Pipefish, as well as the Liberty's resident school of Jacks.
We enjoyed Bali so much that, at the end of the trip, after Thailand, we are going to extend the trip and come back to Bali for a week, again staying with Tulamben Wreck Divers, who are a very friendly, professional outfit.
