An underwater journey with a camera

UK Diving

Cold, dark, rough weather, boats etc. etc. Why would anyone want to go UK diving? I have no idea, but I love it! I love going sea diving, out of Littlehampton, Brighton and Dover, due to their location, but also going up to Scapa Flow or the Farne Islands.
True, the visibility can be non-existent, the sea can be very rough, and the water can be cold, but anything worth doing is usually difficult.

So what is there to see? For me, it's some of the 1000's of wrecks that litter the sea bed. 2 world wars, and the busiest shipping lane in the world mean there are loads to choose from, and where there's wrecks, there's fish. It can be hard to make out the wreck for the number of fish at the right time of the year.

If it's too rough to get out, which is actually a lot of the time, then there are always the quarries. Stoney Cove is the most popular dive site in Britain, thousands of people go there every year, and with good facilities, depths from 6-36m and a load of stuff to have a look at underwater, it's easy to see why.
The quarries can be very cold though, as a lot are spring fed. Stoney cove can be 18c at the surface, but 5c on the bottom. This means ill-equipped divers can get themselves into trouble, so it is worthwhile taking it easy.
I much prefer to get in the sea if at all possible

Pictures of UK diving are hard to take! I currently only have a few, but have been experimenting with Magic Filters. Initial impressions are that anything that makes the green soup of Stoney cove look blue has to be good!
